Labrador Retrievers are sturdy, active, athletic dogs that need regular exercise for optimal mental and physical health. They are people oriented and desire human companionship. Labs are friendly, gentle, intelligent, and possess puppy-like enthusiasm. Their puppyish behavior can last up to three years.

Labrador Retrievers need nutritionally balanced dog food and unlimited fresh water, adequate veterinarian care, discipline and training for manners and obedience, daily exercise, a safe living environment, and human companionship.

Owners should be committed, active, firm, fair and forgiving, patient, dog oriented, fun loving, and responsible. They should be willing to provide food, shelter, grooming, vet care, as well as love and companionship for the entire life of their Labrador. Labs typically live for 12 - 14 years.
